After two away games the boys will want to get back to Castle Park and show the home supporters how well they can play after losing to Richmond last time out at Castle Park. There are only three games left in the Championship season and we have a very difficult run-in. First we face second-placed Ealing Trailfinders, then Premiership-bound Bristol and finally Jersey Reds again but this time not in the B & I Cup. Two of the three games are at Castle Park, let’s make it a fortress again.
The 4 tries to 2 loss against Jersey Reds was unfortunate according to Griff in the Press, things just weren’t going our way but Griff added that people haven’t seen the last of the Knights.
Only three penalty kicks allowed third-placed Bedford Blues to beat the Knights, so the comeback has begun. Second-placed Ealing Trailfinders may be nineteen points or six wins above the Blues but the Blues are still third, just one place below the Trailfinders, so bring it on.
To date Trailfinders have only lost three of the 18 games that they’ve played and two of these were to top-placed Bristol, however Nottingham beat Ealing 28-27 last November. Nottingham almost allowed Ealing to trail their way back from 22-0 to lead 27-25 but a last minute penalty secured the win for the home team. Three early tries proved to be the essential part of the win, so perhaps the Knights need to start quickly and game a significant upper hand.
The Trailfinders have scored 645 points and conceded 374 to the Knights’ 496 and 501 leaving a point’s difference of 82 for the Trailfinders and -5 for the Knights. Of these points, the Trailfinders have scored 83 tries to the Knights’ 67 and conceded 48 to the Knights’ 59.
Trailfinder Full Back/Fly Half Peter Lydon is the fourth highest points-scorer in the Championship and the Knights must keep their discipline because Lydon has an 85% kicking strike rate.
Trailfinder Hooker Alun Walker is the second highest try-scorer in the Championship. Walker has scored 13 tries over 18 games. Walker probably excels at peeling off scrums/rucks/mauls to touch down over the whitewash, something for the Knights to be wary of.
What better way to underline Griff’s statement about not seeing the last of the Knights than to win our last three games against the second, first and fourth-placed teams in the Championship. First up Ealing Trailfinders.
Other games occurring that could impact our league position are:
Sunday 8th April
Cornish Pirates (5th, 2 pts above) welcome Richmond (8th) to the Mennaye
Carnegie (6th, equal pts but game in hand) host Jersey Reds (4th, 4 pts above) at Emerald Headingley Stadium
COYK
DONNY, DONNY, DONNY…
