I thought I’d put the Preview in this ‘folder’ rather than the Knights Events as it might encourage more chat. Is that true or should I post it on the Events folder?
As this season’s two new entrants to the Championship play each other, the obvious favourites are the team that were relegated from Premiership rather than the team promoted from National One. The Warriors have been called, “arguably biggest team in the league” by new back row signing Alex Shaw and I doubt that anyone could disagree with that. However that can bring pressure on Wuss as they are expected to win, the Knights aren’t so we can play attacking rugby. The caveat to that is that Wuss are favourites for a reason and playing attacking rugby can weaken our defence. The Knights were in a similar position last season when every team wanted to take our scalp but we made it to promotion (just).
Even though the Warrors were relegated, vice-captain Full Back Chris Pennell, was nominated for Aviva Premiership Player of the Season.
The Knights and Wuss have met before, so travelling to the reverse fixture at Sixways Stadium won’t be anything new. For any recent Knights supporters:
The Worcester Rugby Football Club is an English rugby union club, nicknamed the Warriors. The club's first team played in the Premiership. They have also competed in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, European Rugby Cup, British and Irish Cup and Aviva A League competitions. The club's kit is made by sports manufacturer KooGa, who they signed to a four-year deal in 2012 to produce home and away strips for the Aviva Premiership, as well as a third design for use in cup competitions. They are sponsored by Worcester Bosch and Fragrance Mad. Their home stadium is the Sixways Stadium, and the team colours are blue and gold. Their nearest premiership rivals were Gloucester Rugby club. (Wikipedia)
After only two games the Knights are riding high in third place after two wins and no losses. Worcester Warriors find themselves in sixth after they lost their opening game. The Knights still have the greatest points difference in the Championship with Dougie Flockhart answering his doubters by being the joint top points scorer in the Championship.
The Warrior’s Fly Half Argentian International Igacio Mieres is fifth. Dougie has the best kicking strike rate at 73% Meres is third with 66.7%.
The Warriors have scored four tries, same as have the Knights but ¾ of theirs have been by backs, ¾ of the Knights’ have been by forwards. Two of the Warrior’s tries were scored by half back Charlie Mulchrone.
C’mon Knights let’s defend our Castle and get our third win of the season. The Warriors were beaten 23 – 19 in their first away game against Bristol, so they’re not unbeatable.
DONNY, DONNY, DONNY…
