Knights v Leeds at Headingley Sunday 17th September KO 15.00
Carnegie’s first two games were against London Scottish and Nottingham, their season started uncertainly with a 30-12 away loss to the Scottish exiles. Nottingham started better than any other team in the Championship with their 10-46 sound beating of the Titans. They went on to lose last Friday at home against Carnegie 27-35. The Knights don’t want to fare similarly after their 44-0 sound beating of the Titans. As Colin Quigley said post Titan game, the Knights are travelling to Carnegie in a confident mood but Carnegie are an excellent side with a big, physical pack that scrum, ruck and maul to get possession for their very capable backs or to win penalties.
The Knights want to make it a hat trick of opening winning games but Carnegie will hope to be victorious at home again this season as they were last season. The Knights avenged last season’s defeat with a win at Castle Park. Over the two games played this season the Knights have scored 23 more points than Carnegie and conceded 11 fewer. More importantly perhaps the Knights have scored eight tries to Carnegie’s six and conceded two tries to Carnegie’s six.
Wikipedia states that Carnegie have brought one player in and thirteen have left and the player they’ve bought in is from National One outfit Hull Ionians, who finished fourteenth in the league last season. Callum must be an outstanding player but the net expense/income from player movements must lie very firmly in the black (since then three in):
Players In
Scotland Callum Irvine from England Hull Ionians
In addition:
““Joe Buckle Hooker ex-Jersey Reds
Marc Thomas Prop ex-Cardiff Blues
George Watkins Wing ex-Jersey Reds”” (http://yorkshirecarnegie.com/2017/07/24/new-boys-help-launch-new-look-kits)
Players Out
England Ryan Burrows to England Newcastle Falcons
England Lewis Boyce to England Harlequins
Tonga Sione Faletau to England Bristol Rugby
England Taylor Prell to England Warrington Wolves
England Dean Schofield retired
England Phil Nilsen to England Coventry
England Seb Stegmann to England Ealing Trailfinders
England Alex Gray retired
England Guy Borrowdale to England Rotherham Titans
England Joe Ford to England Leicester Tigers
England Jonah Holmes to England Leicester Tigers
South Africa Warren Seals to England Darlington Mowden Park
England Andy Saull retired
Carnegie are also wearing new kit made by X Blades (Australian but from Doncaster in the UK).
After four seasons in Jersey with the now-named Jersey Reds, ex-Knight Steve Boden has left to become a Forwards coach at Carnegie.
Let’s make it three out of three boys and not give their mascot Terry the Terrier anything to bark about.
