After narrowly losing to the then seventh-placed Welsh exiles, the Knights now face the now seventh-placed Scottish exiles at Castle Park. The Scottish have won three and lost four of their seven games played, the Knights are four wins and three losses for theirs.
The Knights are now fourth with equal points as the Cornish Pirates in fifth but again the Pirates have a draw plus 2 bonus points instead of a win that the Knights have. Ealing Trailfinders are one point above in third courtesy of their draw against the Pirates that we lost. The Trailfinders have scored two bonus points to our three.
Unfortunately Statbunker has not recorded the results of two games, so rankings may be inaccurate.
In getting too this stage the Scottish exiles have scored 164 points (23.4/game) and conceded 226 (32.3 points/game). The Knights have scored 162 (23.1/game) and conceded 132 points (18.9 points/game). Both teams have therefore scored nearly an identical number of points but the Knights have had a stronger defence up until now. Scottish have scored two less tries than the Knights and have conceded nearly twice as many (28 compared to 15).
Only Richmond have conceded more tries than the Scottish exiles. Tries have been leaked in a roughly 60:40 split backs:forwards. Oddly enough though the front row have scored the most tries against Scottish with Wingers just one behind. All of the backs positions have scored tries against them but so have the back row.
Scottish's Hooker David Cherry is the Championships fifth-equal top try-scorer. It is very unusual for a hooker to be a leading try-scorer so the Knights need to be ready for Cherry peeling off the set piece.
Seven tries have been scored by the front row, only four have been scored by Cherry. The Wingers and the Back Row are the next highest scoring positions.
The Knights should look at exploiting a hopefully weaker defence whilst focusing on bolstering their own defence at set pieces and down their wings.
Scottish Full Back/Fly Half Peter Lydon strike has a rate 72% and is the fifth top scorer in the Championship; only one point behind Will Cargill of the Cornish Pirates and the Pirates are fifth.
C’mon Knights let’s have a sprint start and continue that momentum and not try to play the catch-up game.
