Just back from Glasgow - thought we had it, especially when we kicked to touch after 80 mins on Sky (who take time off when play stops) but the referee played added time! Didn't spot the forward pass for their third try but a small consolation for the Knights is that they should have done the double over Bristol. (If the forward pass was spotted or if the ref hadn't played such a long extra time - I'm not alleging that it was too long, just that it differed to Sky's.)
What an agonising last-minute defeat to Bristol last Sunday but the boys can feel proud of themselves, they gained two points (equivalent to a draw) against Bristol.
As Clive said in the Free Press on 7th Jan “The likes of Moseley and Ealing are fighting for their lives and will be hard to beat.
Then on 4th March Griff said in the SY Times before the London Scottish game, “…“Moseley will probably be the toughest (of the remaining four games) because they are down their fighting for their lives,” he said. “Whereas both London Scottish and London Welsh have nothing really left to play for apart from trying to finish as high in the table as they can….”
The Knights are second and Moseley are twelfth but the Knights have only had five nights to recover from a very hard-fought game with a very tortuous result that must play on their minds. The Knights will hopefully file the result away under experience and take on Moseley as if the result had never happened.
Moseley have won just four of their nineteen games played and so the Knights should win on paper BUT everybody knows that Moseley are fighting for survival in the Championship and so past performances can’t really be considered. Mose’s Fly Half/Full Back Glyn Hughes can certainly kick the points (plus score a try),; Hughes is the fifth top points-scorer on the Championship and remember that Moseley are twelfth. Wing Kyle Evans has been their leading try-scorer with Back Row Chris Brightwell just a try behind, the other Winger Drew Cheshire also has a few tries to his name.
The Knights can’t catch Bristol in the Championship league table but ‘Yorkshire’ Carnegie are just six points behind after beating Bedford Blues last Sunday. Carnegie play sixth-placed London Welsh on Saturday.
Moseley appear to have a tougher finish than Ealing Trailfinders, therefore the Knights must be wary because the tighter your back is against the wall, the harder you can push back. They’ve got nothing to lose so why not go all out for a win.
Mose are now three points below Trailfinders with just three games to go. The Trailfinders are away at Lady Bay against Nottingham so Mose will want to press the home advantage button, hope it works and for Nottingham to do the same to put the Trailfinders bottom with two games to go.
