Why I like French Rugby.
1) The French Union (FFR) takes little notice of the IRB and introduces its own regulations. They were the first to introduce a compulsory additional front row substitute to avoid uncontested scrums. The supporters love scrums.
2) A team must score three more tries than the opposition score to get try bonus e.g. losing team score 3 other team must score six as happened in a Montpellier match a few years ago.
3)From this season have to finish within 5 points to secure losing bonus point.
4) French referees do occasionally penalise crooked feeds in the scrum!!! I have to laugh when Wayne Barnes ( a very good Premiership referee) bends down at the scrum put in to get a better view of the feed and still never penalises a crooked feed even though 90% plus are crooked.
5) Not as many reset scrums as if ball appears to be coming out and the front rows etc are collapsing play continues.
6) Both teams enter the field of play side by side as they also did in Italy last time I saw a match there.
7) Nearly every team has one or more international player (lots of Fijians) as well as talented young and older French players.
8) Although there are seriously rich people bankrolling some clubs the FFR actually allocates more money to the two promoted clubs who still struggle but at the moment the number of points separating top from bottom is about 20.
9)The Pro D2 (equivalent to the Championship) is under the umbrella of the French Federation and funded to be fully professional.Take note RFU.
Should you have any access to Sky record a match and watch it after seeing Donny.
Anyone agree with any of this?
