Caldy RFC in Premiership Cup preview

Caldy RFC v Doncaster Knights, Saturday 23rd November, Paton Field, The Wirral. KO 2.00 pm.
The Knights travel away for the second consecutive Championship Cup game, this time to Paton Field, The Wirral to play Caldy.
We welcome Caldy to Castle Park for a Championship league match in three weeks (14th December).
Caldy lost their initial Championship Cup match to Newcastle Falcons, 12-33. They then popped over to Salford Community Stadium to play Sale Sharks.
Caldy scored two tries against the Falcons and one was converted by fly half Dan Rabbette. Caldy try scorers were replacement prop Adam Aigbokhae (Ultimate rugby have him as a flanker, so perhaps he can play either position) and replacement scrum-half Oliver Winn.
Last Friday evening Caldy lost 40-7 away against Sale Sharks. The Sharks scored six tries in the game and Caldy’s try was a penalty try after 50 minutes. In fact, the Sharks received two yellow cards, obviously one resulting in the penalty try. Caldy received one themselves.
There was parity between each set of forwards, with the Sharks winning a few more rucks but Caldy’s success at mauls was 100% to the Sharks’ 70%. Plus, Caldy won six of the nine scrums. Caldy’s discipline was good because there no penalties scored (by either team). One attacking stat that stands out over the roughly 60:40 split in possession, territory and many other stats was that Sale made 14 clean breaks and Caldy didn’t make one.
The Knights fell short 37-43, to Sale Sharks in a close Premiership Cup battle at Castle Park. Despite losing, the Knights played some brilliant rugby and showed their true potential with some well-worked tries.
The Knights then travelled to Kingston Park in Newcastle to play the Falcons. And just failed to make an impressive comeback to lose 31-28. It was 28-0 at half time but the second half saw the Knights cross the whitewash four times and the Falcons only managed a penalty kick. That penalty was ultimately the difference between the sides.
After two games, unsurprisingly, the two Premiership teams are first (Sale Sharks) and second (Newcastle Falcons). The Knights are third after scoring four bonus points and Caldy are bottom, yet to score a league point.
Surprisingly Championship side Coventry top Pool B, above Northampton Saints in second, Championship side Nottingham third and Leicester Tigers fourth, yet to win a league point.
