London Scottish v Doncaster Knights
Saturday 1st April, Richmond Athletic Ground (RAG) KO 3pm
Round 18 for the Knights,
round 19 for Scottish and five other teams.
The Knights have yet to win a game since league action recommenced in March after losing 49-25 to the Blues in Bedford, 31-12 a fortnight later at Ampthill and then 39-45 home against Coventry last Saturday. The home fixture against Jersey Reds was postponed by the weather.
Last time out London Scottish were beaten 26-19 in the Wirral by Caldy. It was a game they will regret losing after leading 14-19 at half time. The game saw seven tries scored, unfortunately for Scottish they scored three to Caldy’s four. Scottish try scorers last week were by Wing Luke Mehson, Harlequin Centre Lennox Anyanwu and Lock Matas Jurevicius.
The Knights played much better than they did at Ampthill and pushed third-placed Cov close enough to win a losing bonus point by finishing within seven points plus gain a try bonus point after scoring five tries in their 39-45 defeat. Hopefully they can notch-up their first win since the Cup group games ended.
The Knights are just in the bottom half of the Championship after winning eight and losing nine games. Although the Scottish exiles have only won one game, they have won the same number of bonus points as the Knights and seemed a much better team than their results demonstrate when they played well against the Knights at Castle Park last December. The Knights only won by a point, 15-14. Scottish’s win was 19-10 at home against Caldy.
Scottish have had some close results; two games after the one point loss to the Knights, Scottish had another single point loss 19-20 away against Hartpury. Two games after that Jersey Reds beat them by two points, 22-24. Finally on 18th March, the Cornish Pirates beat Scottish by three points, 31-34. If Scottish had scored eleven more points over four games (two, two, three and four points), they could have converted four losses into four wins. This would take them off bottom spot! No April Fool gags about the Knights not underestimating Scottish because the game is played after midday.
