Championship Cup Round 2, Doncaster Knights v London Scottish, Castle Park, Saturday 11th February, KO 2.30
Pool B of the Championship Cup still shows Doncaster Knights at the top of the table with four wins and three losses, Coventry are four points below in second and Bedford Blues are third after both teams have won two of their four games played. Cov are two points above the Blues courtesy of their three bonus points (BP) won compared to the Blues’ single try BP. London Scottish are four points below the Blues after winning one and losing three of their games and scoring one try BP.
The Cornish Pirates in Pool C are the only team to have won all their Championship Cup games and they’ve scored a winning try bonus point each time. Ealing Trailfinders top Pool A but they also won a losing bonus point in their 28-27 defeat in Jersey against the Reds last Saturday. This leaves them with 16 league points scored to the Knights’ 15.
Between the Pools, the Knights have scored the seventh highest number of points and conceded the fifth fewest number of points. Scottish have scored the tenth highest and conceded the tenth fewest. Nine teams have scored more tries than the Knights but the highest are Bedford and Coventry and they’ve only scored four more than the Knights’ brace. Scottish, with three have scored one more try. Doncaster Knights and London Scottish are the only teams to have conceded six tries.
The Scottish exiles have scored 17 points fewer and conceded 50 points more than the Knights over their four games, 4,25 and 12.5 / game respectively.
Can the Knights get back into bonus point-winning ways after their disappointing day at Butts Park Arena after a heavy defeat by a 30 point losing margin against Coventry (42-12)?
Coventry welcome Bedford Blues to Butts Park Arena for the other Pool B Championship Cup game.
