The less said about last week’s loss to Moseley, the better. Mose deserved to win and we were dire! As Charger said on the unofficial Forum, “The Moseley game is now history, let's hope we learn from it and make sure we don't have another bad day at the office this season and next week show our Yorkshire pride and grit against Scottish. Come on Donny!”
Griff has apologised to the fans for the performance and taken responsibility however he stated in the Free Press, “As I say, I’ll carry the can but I didn’t knock-on or throw out interception passes and things like that.” This is trying to make the players accountable for the loss after Griff has shouldered the blame.
The Knights are now eighth after three wins and four losses. London Scottish are third having only lost two of their seven league games. The Knights can take solace with the knowledge that ‘lowly’ Moseley beat Scottish 16 - 9 before they beat us 13 - 28. At least we breached Moseley’s defence.
Scottish have scored 226 points (32.3 per match) to the Knights’ 154 (22 per match), so significantly more per game. However Scottish have leaked 263 points (37.6 per match) to the Knights’ 154 points (22 per match).Easy job, simply prevent them from scoring and exploit their defence! (OK – it sounds easy but…!)
Potentially good news for the Knights is that Scottish have lost two of their three away games. That said Scottish will be buoyed by their 38 – 17, six-try win over Jersey last week. Scottish didn’t score a penalty in that match, which implies great discipline by Jersey.
Peter Lydon (Full Back/Fly Half) is Scottish’s danger man with the boot, third in the Championship and with an 80% away kicking strike rate, the Knights must try to not concede kickable penalties.
The Championship’s top try scorer is Scottish’s Back Row Mark Bright with ten tries in seven games. Winger Miles Mantella is fourth having scored four tries
After seven games the negative is that a loss COULD drop us down to eleventh as:
Leeds Carnegie (9th) are two points below; they welcome Plymouth Albion (12th) on Friday
Moseley (10th) are three points below; they welcome fifth-placed Nottingham on Saturday
Eleventh-placed Cornish Pirates are five points below (bonus point + points scored dependant). Bedford Blues (7th) travel to Penzance on Sunday
However a bonus point win COULD Rise us up to fifth as:
Bedford Blues (7th) are one point above. They go to Cornwall to play the Pirates (11th) on Sunday
Jersey are also one point above (6th but have one less win); they must face Worcester warriors (top) on Friday
Nottingham (5th) are four points above and they travel to play tenth-placed Moseley
Fifth and eleventh are obviously very extreme and highly unlikely results but the point is that less than half way through the season a win or loss can impact our league position greatly.
DONNY, DONNY, DONNY…
