Round 9 Round 2, Castle Park Saturday 10th December, KO 2.30pm
After a very bad day at the office last Saturday at Coventry’s Butts Park Arena, at least the Knights remain sixth in the Championship table. Dubbed the Knights’ worst performance for several seasons in the Championship, it apparently left Steve Boden angered. Hopefully the Knights have a point to prove, more to themselves than others, however, when a team tries hard to score their defence can suffer and tries are conceded! Expect a high-scoring game against the Scottish exiles.
Scottish will be on a high after recording their first league win of the season, 19-10 against Caldy last Saturday. Hooker Riley dotted down after a solo effort that the Knights need to be wary of, then Winger Mehson dove in at the corner. Finally Lock Wilkinson dotted down from short range in the second half against Caldy.
Part of this newfound success might be due to the arrival of Hooker Jamie Drummond and Lock Max Williamson joining Scottish on short-term loan from Glasgow Warriors giving the team better possession and a renewed incentive.
London Scottish might be at the foot of the table but they have conceded fewer points away than Richmond, Nottingham or the Knights. Scottish have also scored more try bonus points than the Cornish Pirates; the Knights can’t assume a ‘W’.
Championship fixtures:
Friday 9th
Nottingham (5) v Jersey Reds (2)
Saturday 10th
Caldy (11) v Cornish Pirates (7)
Doncaster (6) v London Scottish (12)
Hartpury RFC (8) v Coventry (3)
Ealing Trailfinders (1) v Bedford Blues (4)
Richmond (9) v Ampthill (10)
If sixth-placed Knights win, they will rise to fifth if Nottingham lose. A Knight defeat will see them drop to seventh if the Pirates win, plus if Hartpury win with a bonus point, they’ll be level on points but remain below on tries scored and points difference.
