Round eight, Butts Park Arena Saturday 3rd December, KO 3pm
Cup action is over and the Knights will be buoyed by their three from three, each with a bonus point. Let the league season recommence.
Third-placed Coventry welcome sixth-placed Doncaster Knights to Butts Park Arena for round eight of the Championship. Cov have won five and lost two of their seven games played, the Knights have four wins and three losses. Cov have scored 176 points and conceded 201 points. The Knights have scored 209 and conceded 156, therefore the Knights have a points difference of 53 and Cov’s is -25, both teams have scored five bonus points.
It was advantage Cov last season when Cov won 39-22 at Butts Park Arena and then the Knights lost again 22-35 at Castle Park.
In the truncated 20/21 season the Knights took the honours by a point (20-19) at Castle Park.
Cov also beat the Knights 18 – 6 and 26-35 the 2019/20 season.
Cov Fly Half Patrick Pellegrini is the Championship’s eighth leading points-scorer and Hooker Suva Ma'asi is the seventh leading try-scorer. Wingers Shea Cornish and Will Talbot-Davies have only scored one try less than Ma’asi.
All Championship fixtures are on Saturday 3rd December.
Coventry (3) v Doncaster Knights (6)
Ampthill (9) v Hartpury University (10)
Bedford Blues (4) v Nottingham (5)
Cornish Pirates (7) v Ealing Trailfinders (1)
Jersey Reds (2) v Richmond (8)
London Scottish (12) v Caldy (11)
The Knights are sixth, a Knight win will see them rise to third if Bedford loses but a defeat would see the Knights drop a place to seventh if the Pirates win.

DONNY, DONNY, DONNY…
I repeat because not many people read the Bedford preview. I’ve been asked to reduce the preview to a 250 word summary for the Free Press but I may add more on the Forum. The previous Sports Editor has been promoted and has less time for sport so sport is taking a back seat and the Knight’s previews are starting to be omitted. I hoped to get more coverage for the Knights but sadly it must be reduced to get any coverage.
