Championship Cup Round 3, Castle Park 19th November, KO 2.30 pm
Top-placed in Pool B and unbeaten in the Championship Cup, Doncaster Knights welcome third-placed Bedford Blues to Castle Park. The Blues are only below London Scottish by a try bonus-point.
This weekend marks the halfway point of the group stage with the reverse fixtures to be played.
Bedford recorded a 27-21 ‘W’ in a match where they lost the try-count two - three but Championship league top-scorer Fly Half William Maisey scored five penalties plus one conversion. Blues’ top try-scorer and third in the league Winger Dean Adamson didn’t score but Centre James Elliott and Back Row Geordie Irvine did.
The Knights secured a bonus-point win against London Scottish despite being down to 13 men for three minutes towards the end of the first half. Man Of the Match George Roberts scored a brace of tries within ten minutes in the second half as part of a collective forward effort. Roberts also set-up two tries in the first half.
When the Blues lost 26-17 to Scottish in the Cup, Scrum Half Jake Garside scored a breakaway try and looked threatening when he kept smashing through the gainline. Blue’s long serving, try-scoring Winger Pat Tapley dotted down late in the game. Another Blue Scrum Half Alex Day has also dotted down six times in the league, making him equal-fourth. The Knights need to be wary of a Scrum Half, darting from behind a scrum/ruck/maul or lineout and for their flying Wingers.
The Blues have scored two points less than the Knights in Pool B but they have conceded 28 more points.

DONNY, DONNY, DONNY…
I’ve been asked to reduce the preview to a 250 word summary for the Free Press but I may add more on the Forum. The previous Sports Editor has been promoted and has less time for sport and so sport is taking a back seat and the Knight’s previews are starting to be omitted. I hoped to get more coverage for the Knights but sadly it must be reduced to get any coverage.
