Ealing Trailfinders preview

Round 9, Trailfinders Sports Club, Vallis Way, Ealing. Sat 22nd May 3pm
(Trailfinder’s Round 10.)
Saturday’s game away against Trailfinders is a must-win game of sorts; we must win to proceed to the play-off final.
Trailfinders are top of the Championship and have only been beaten once, by Saracens with all their Six Nations players. Their points difference is over 100 points greater than the number of points the Knights have scored. They have beaten every team by over 50 points apart from their loss to Sarries, their win over the Cornish Pirates and last week when they beat Bedford Blues. The Knights are third with a game in hand over fourth-placed Pirates and eleven points or more significantly greater than ten points (max points over two games) above Coventry in fifth, so a top four finish is guaranteed.
On 25th April Trailfinders lost 48–20 to Sarries at their StoneX Stadium, we lost 15-50 to Sarries a week earlier at Castle Park; remarkably similar results with neither team performing significantly stronger or weaker than the other.
The Knight’s last game was against Bedford Blues a fortnight ago when we overcame a strong Bedford side that started the game excellently. The Knights were trailing 0-12 at the break but ended as 27-19 winners. The bonus point gained meant that the Cornish Pirates couldn’t catch us up when they beat Hartpury Uni 52-26 during our BYE weekend. Even better is the fact that it is the Pirates turn to have a BYE week whilst we play Trailfinders. It is Trailfinder’s last game because their BYE is next week when all other teams play their last game.
We then had a bye weekend whilst Trailfinders played the Blues and won 17-40. That was only the second time that Trailfinders haven’t scored over 50 points in a win. As mentioned, we beat Bedford Blues 27-19, so the scores aren’t a million miles away from each other. Are these score comparisons a glimmer of hope or am I looking for hope that isn’t there?
As a team, according to the RFU Trailfinders are or have:
• Highest number of points scored at home.
• Highest number of points scored away.
• Least points conceded at home.
• Most try bonus points scored.
• Biggest fortress (equal with Saracens).
• Best travellers
Individual scoring stats are dominated by Trailfinders players:
With nine tries, Rayn Smid, their South African Back Row is the leading try-scorer in the Championship.
Jordan Burns, Trailfinder Scrum Half is equal second.
Max Bodily (Centre) is equal fourth.
Craig Hampson also (Scrum Half) is equal seventh.
Simon Uzokwe (Back Row), Will Davis (Prop), Shaun Malton (Hooker) and Angus Kernohan (Winger) are frequent scorers as well. (Statbunker isn’t up to date and the RFU stops after ten.)
This is Trailfinders last game of the normal shortened season, it’s our penultimate game. Can we inflict Trailfinders’ second defeat?
All supporters will be looking forward to our final game of the ‘normal’ season against Nottingham at Castle Park next Saturday because a limited number of fans will be allowed to attend.
Elsewhere Cornish Pirates, one point below have their BYE weekend
Saracens (second, four points above) travel to Butts Park Arena to play Coventry (fifth)
