Trailfinders v Knights in Trailfinders Challenge Cup
Sponsored by 24 IT Services
Saturday, 20th February – 3pm KO @ Vallis Way
The Knights’ and the final Trailfinders Cup game is Knights v Trailfinders at their home on Vallis Way.
I think all Knights staff, players, coaches and supporters would like to thank Mike Gooley and Trailfinders, who provided the prize money for what has been a truly competitive event. Trailfinders provided 27k across the three clubs to cover the operational costs of the tournament and 40k prize money of which the winners (we now know Trailfinders) will take home first prize of 20k. Thank you, Mike, for your generosity and for the chance to enable the Knights to be included in such a fantastic event against what is potentially the best two teams in the Championship this season.
What an amazing introduction as a coach to Bodes and an incredible pre-season for the Knights. The Knights can face the Trailfinders this time with more focus and confidence now that all players have played and Bodes can select his starting XV after witnessing performances over the last two weeks.
In this last Trailfinders Cup game, Sarries have already played all their four games, with Trailfinders and the Knights to conclude the Cup on Saturday. The Cup table has Trailfinders top with 14 points, followed by Saracens second with 9 points and then the Knights with 5 points. Therefore, Trailfinders have won the Cup, which is appropriate after Mike Gooley’s generosity. Realistically we can only leapfrog Sarries into second place with a bonus point win over Trailfinders; (Knights must score 45 more points than Trailfinders if we record a win without a bonus point). The Knights have nothing to lose, they can build on their strengths and go all-out for a resounding victory.
In the first game against Sarries, the West Londoners scored three tries courtesy of a double from Alun Walker (Hooker) and one from Angus Kernohan (Centre/Wing).
When Trailfinders travelled to |caste Park, their seven tries were scored by James Cordy Redden (Wing; 15 minutes) Will Davis (Front Row; 20 minutes) Bobby de Wee (2nd Row; 28 minutes) Guy Thompson (Back Row; 33 minutes) Craig Hampson (Scrum Half; 40 minutes) David Johnston (Flanker; 52 minutes) Dean Hammond (Fly Half; 74 minutes)
Trailfinder’s five tries at StoneX Stadium against Saracens were scored by Rayn Smid (Back Row), Will Davis, Dean Hammond, Pat Howard (Centre) and Guy Thompson.
Both teams have played each other once and witnessed the other team play Sarries but only once for the Knights after the first game was called off due to Covid self-isolations. The Knights have nothing to lose and Trailfinders have already won, however there’s no way Trailfinders will relax slightly. They will want to win the Cup unbeaten. It promises to be an exciting game to watch.
Looking forward to a different season kicking off with Ampthill away a fortnight from Saturday, 6th March.
