Saw Steve after the game, he took the performance very badly but spoke very well and thanks to him for speaking to those that had made the journey. He was reserved in his comments but it's clear he's a real club man and will expecting better next season. Real positive..Volpi looked a top player at 8.
Could it be at that level that sides pretty much know when they're up against it???
Bedford getting their act together and having better players returning and at home in front of one of the divisions better crowds / compared to us who are borrowing forwards from Pirates just to make the numbers up? We're playing with one LHP and all of our preferred locks and loose forwards missing and Lucock, Flockhart and Wilson missing from the 3/4's...its a tough gig?
Maybe lots of that side no their fate for next season be it here or elsewhere?
Maybe there's a focus to avoid any key injuries (if we lose our halfback pair at all we are screwed...) and up the ante at home?
There is no excuse for not having the right attitude and not putting it in but sometimes this is how it can look when really you're just outgunned on the day. I won't excuse a bad performance but imagine how the Jersey fans felt about the result at CP and they aren't a side that gets beaten easily very often but it can happen and for me with the XV we're putting out and where they'd be on the depth chart of our preferred squad its no surprise we're struggling a bit away.
Hislop Hunter Quigley Challoner Smith Stedman Hills Pitman; James Morath Wilson Lucock Roberts Flockhart McColl; Thomas Edgson Foster Eames Calladine Pocklington Foley Cowell - is what we might have had (Olver may have pushed Morath anyway...) Sproston, Lewis, Hayes etc outside the matchday squad even!
Thomas Hunter Quigley Eames Romaine Lokatui Conradie Volpi; James Olver Lewis Latu Foley Evans Cowell - was the XV we had out on Saturday, its not comparable. The backs look alright but haven't had a lot of time with those pegs in those holes to operate at Champo level, besides the front row the pack are almost mercenaries and there's a lot of technical stuff that they just haven't been part of, from preseason through to now.
I don't think you can just see the fixture as Blues v Knights and expect a standard result based on the clubs, the league position and last seasons results and take for granted that we'll be within five or winning...on the day it just doesn't work like that?
I'm pretty sure SB will get a lot of the players he wants next year - we just need to hope we can keep more of them on the pitch for longer!!!
If you lose Smith Stedman and Lucock from any Champo side you're going to see an effect on your performance, you're losing three of the best in the league and replacing them with lads that might've worked their way onto the bench in an ideal world.
The lad Temm who was at Leeds - 6,7 or 8 is a right player and one I'd love to see at CP but I think he's extended for next year at BB?
He's fairly lythe at the side of the Stedman and Pitman types but his presence in the lineout and his support lines in open play are second to none. The best players always seem to be in the right place and he's one of them and he runs through gaps rather than into bodies which seems to be a diminishing art in all rugby...everyone wants to win the contact - just avoid the contact I say if you've got the ball!!!
martinc: Enjoy your trip to Jersey lads. COYK! COYK! COYK!

kenner: Just a Question if I may? Why after a season and on to the second can we not get an actual picture of Aaron Carpenter on the players site? Did not someone just take team photos?
Sept 21, 2017 19:35:08 GMT
Sir Spicious: I fear there are rumours that Aaron may, in fact, be a vampire and as such his image does not reflect in mirrors nor can it be captured in a photo. I should, however, warn you this may be fake news.

Mar 10, 2018 10:24:11 GMT
thomasmachin: It would appear that if we are to replace the departing players we had better be quick or all the available players will be signed by Ealing ,Coventry and Cornish Pirates!

barbelhunter: What a great re signing that is.

donnyknightsfan: that was absolutely dire today almost from start to finish apart from a spell in the 2nd half when we looked OK. players don't look motivated enough to me. they need a kick up the backside. the next two games v Bedford and Irish look a tough ask now.

rodders: A bit random this one but are any Knights fans travelling to the Jersey game on Friday 1st March flying from East Midlands on the 10.55 flight out. 2 of us are looking for a lift to East Midlands airport unexpectedly. Happy to share costs of travel

donnyknightsfan: after yesterday's showing a new attacking coach and structure is needed ASAP. our attack is really poor. why don't we ever look to create space?. you're not going to beat championship defences by just running straight at them.

thomasmachin: I would support any reasonable suggestion to support the Club
