Coventry in Championship Cup preview

Sat 8th Dec, 2018 - 03:00pm, Butts Park Arena
Andrew Bulumakau , Junior Bulumakau and Jack Ram all moved to Coventry over the Summer from Doncaster Knights (drfc.co.uk). Latu Makaafi transferred their last Summer so Cov have four good South Sea Island, ex-Knight players.
After four Cup games, the Group 1 Pool looks like this:
Carnegie 14
Coventry 12
Knights 9
Nottingham 7
Both Coventry and the Knights still qualify for the quarter-finals as runner up or one of two best 3rd placed sides (both). Essentially this should be viewed as a must-win game to stay in contention for the quarter-finals. Yes, we are still eligible for the Cup QF play-offs. Bedford Blues are three points below us and London Scottish are just out of the qualify zone but only five points below us. Coventry and the Knights have both won two and lost two of their four games played and both have won one losing bonus point for finishing within seven points of the winner but Cov have also won three try bonus points. They have amassed 136 points scored to the Knights’ 75. They have scored 21 tries in the process (5.25/game) and the Knights have scored 9 (2,25/game). However the Knights have only conceded 9 tries to Cov’s 16 (I think about 4/game!)
Jersey Reds and London Irish are the only undefeated teams but the Reds have scored an extra bonus point. The Irish failed to score a try bonus point in their home win against Bedford Blues but they scored one a week later at Goldington Road.
Coventry’s Will Maisey (Fly Half) is the Cup’s third highest scorer and Max Trimble (Back Three) is fifth. Trimble appears as the fifth top points scorer because he is the second-highest try-scorer with five tries from four appearances. Junior Bulamakau (Centre) is equal fourth with three tries from four appearances.
The other Championship Cup fixture sees Carnegie travel to Nottingham on Sunday.
