Richmond preview sponsored by Steadfast Industrial Conveyor Belts (www.steadfast.uk.com)
Round 3, Athletic Ground, Richmond Sat 15th Sep, 2018 - 3.00pm
““Richmond are flying, they did the double over us and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen next season.” (DRFC website)
Gallagher have just committed to being Richmond’s main sponsor for a further two years, coincidentally Gallagher are sponsoring the Championship this season. That does not infer anything, it is merely a coincidence.
“Richmond are delighted to confirm that the vast majority of last season’s successful side have signed new contracts… 34 players have re-signed a new contract ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.” (Richmond’s website)
“There are several new faces in the first team picture this season, too, as the squad has been strengthened by the arrival of; fly-half Lewis Dennett (Ebbw Vale), wing/full back Sam Edgerley (Doncaster/Oxford University), centre Oliver Evans (Nottingham), hooker Rupert Freestone (Plymouth Albion), back row forward Ed Milne and wing Nick Scott (London Scottish), tighthead prop Dave Spelman (Bedford) and full back/wing Jack Wallace (Bristol)...”

Richmond beat the Scottish Exiles in the season-opener 24-19. Both the Knights and Mond have played two, won one, lost one
Last time out Carnegie beat Richmond 24-7. Apparently it was a game of tight margins when Richmond were unfortunate to leave with nothing. Richmond errors were the story of the day and a late push for a losing bonus point saw Richmond come up inches shy of the Carnegie line, plus the hosts scored their fourth try with the last play of the game just two phases later at the other end. (Richmond website) It seems that it was much closer than the score suggests. Allegedly if the game had finished after about 79 minutes, the score could have been 17-14!
Mond haven’t scored as many points as the Knights but they haven’t conceded as many either.
The Knights will have done their homework and, as Steve McColl said on DKTV, they will take heart from their performances.
