Knights Head coach advert in rugby paper? Shake up in the backroom staff?
From the donny free press
"Doncaster Knights are looking for a head coach with the capability to work with, and take over from, director of rugby Clive Griffiths at some future date.
The ambitious Championship club took out an advert in a national rugby publication on Sunday - something Griffiths said this morning that he had been aware of.
“With Phil Larder, who has been helping us out on a part-time role going back into retirement at the end of the season, I approached the board about bringing in a new coach,” said the Welshman. “Having reviewed the current set-up this is what they have decided to do.”
The club say that are looking for someone with significant experience, dedication and motivation along with relevant coaching qualifications.
"Given the club’s standing Griffiths says he expects that there will be no shortage of applicants."
" He added: “Both Paul Cooke, who has experience of being head coach at the Dons and No 2 at Leigh when they were in Super League, and forwards’ coach Glen Kenworthy are both free to apply.”
Griffiths, who is now taking a more active role after heart surgery earlier the season, is under contract until the end of next season."
“If the person the board thought was the right man to take things forward, didn’t feel that he could work with me and learn the ropes then there would be decisions to be had."
Interesting that's it is being opened up and not given straight to Kendo or Cooke, it's good for both themselves in terms of experience and development if they wish to apply, and the club that they have to apply along with everyone else. I'd expect plenty of applicants and hopefully someone to work with Griff next season.
Martin Haag has previously been involved on a short term basis.
People like Jim Mallender are currently out of work though I'm not sure you'd get coaches that see themselves at Premiership level dropping down, more likely to get a Premiership assistant looking to make a stepping stone move upwards?
There's quite a few of this squad that are pursuing coaching careers, there could be a conveyor belt over the next 5 years...
Any coach coming in and working under Clive will produce the same outcome as we have now ( status quo). It is the same as Kenny, Cooke with Clive overseeing coaching to his standards and picking his team, resulting in the same old style of rugby.
Will any new coach be able to put his own style of coaching into practice whilst working under Clive?
Can a new coach pick his team on match days? Is the new coach going to be like the Gloucester set up with Ackerman and Humphries? Who will have reign of buying of new players?
These issues need sorting or we will slip slowly into National 1.
The thing that I find most surprising is that this significant development does not, apparently, even merit a mention on the Club's website despite the fact that there is a specific tab for "Latest News". It is difficult to imagine anything more newsworthy at this time and I would have expected some official comment or explanation from the Board or CEO. I think the fans are entitled to some kind of explanation for the thinking behind this move rather than us just happening to come across an advert on a Sunday morning reading of the Rugby Paper - communication is important guys!
The club does need a change of Direction. That means a change of personnel, not promotion from the current cohort. Staggering that the club website does not cover the story and the thinking behind it. Mushroom principle again.

kenner: Just a Question if I may? Why after a season and on to the second can we not get an actual picture of Aaron Carpenter on the players site? Did not someone just take team photos?
Sept 21, 2017 19:35:08 GMT
Sir Spicious: I fear there are rumours that Aaron may, in fact, be a vampire and as such his image does not reflect in mirrors nor can it be captured in a photo. I should, however, warn you this may be fake news.

donnyknightsfan: that was absolutely dire today almost from start to finish apart from a spell in the 2nd half when we looked OK. players don't look motivated enough to me. they need a kick up the backside. the next two games v Bedford and Irish look a tough ask now.

donnyknightsfan: after yesterday's showing a new attacking coach and structure is needed ASAP. our attack is really poor. why don't we ever look to create space?. you're not going to beat championship defences by just running straight at them.
