For those who have missed it, London Welsh have gone into liquidation. There are plentiful posts on Rolling Maul covering their situation. For those who wish to contribute to the debate on this forum this is the place to do it.
I think we won't have any impact at all on the outcome of these shenanigans - but I do think a greater penalty than the 20 points deduction should be applied. Richmond and Bedford could possibly breathe a sigh of relief. As JB suggested they will likely find a loop hole.
However, I do feel for the staff and team members who have had contracts torn up and new offers presented.
A winding up order issued against Championship strugglers London Welsh has been dismissed by a judge.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs had applied for the Exiles to be wound up because of an unpaid tax bill of more than £90,000. But registrar Nicholas Briggs dismissed the case on Monday after learning that Welsh entered voluntary liquidation last month.
Thats just tidying up of legalities. 'Old' LW. were liable for those expenses, 'New' LW are not. However they may not be plain sailing yet. I believe the RFU Championship committee have passed up the 'New' LW application for a licence to a higher committee. Decision expected tomorrow.
Winning isn't everything, it just makes the beer taste better,
Very sorry to hear that the inevitable has happened, which is the correct course of action. I hope that all involved at the club find new jobs and the players find new clubs.
Unfortunately, it is another home match that our club will miss out on against the Welsh this season. I sincerely hope that the RFU compensate us for loss of revenue, which must be well over £50,000 for the two games.
For the remainder of this season, wouldn't it be great if LW could put some team together and visit championship clubs on the day they were originally scheduled. They could play a friendly and the home clubs could gain some revenue to offset what they have lost through no fault of their own. Clubs could even pass buckets around for a collection to help pay the LW players. Just a thought.
In the mean time, I hope that we can arrange some sort of friendly for the 25 February. Grif wasn't given much notice to arrange a game previously, so hopefully something can be done this time around.
At the business end of the season, I don't know if risking injuries outweighs the benefit of game time. Gate money would always be welcome but at the expense of losing players? I don't know. As a supporter, I'd always take rugby over a blank weekend but as always, there is a bigger picture.
kenner: Just a Question if I may? Why after a season and on to the second can we not get an actual picture of Aaron Carpenter on the players site? Did not someone just take team photos?

Sir Spicious: I fear there are rumours that Aaron may, in fact, be a vampire and as such his image does not reflect in mirrors nor can it be captured in a photo. I should, however, warn you this may be fake news.

thomasmachin: It would appear that if we are to replace the departing players we had better be quick or all the available players will be signed by Ealing ,Coventry and Cornish Pirates!

barbelhunter: What a great re signing that is.

donnyknightsfan: that was absolutely dire today almost from start to finish apart from a spell in the 2nd half when we looked OK. players don't look motivated enough to me. they need a kick up the backside. the next two games v Bedford and Irish look a tough ask now.

donnyknightsfan: after yesterday's showing a new attacking coach and structure is needed ASAP. our attack is really poor. why don't we ever look to create space?. you're not going to beat championship defences by just running straight at them.

thomasmachin: I would support any reasonable suggestion to support the Club

Sir Spicious: Sorry, Lock. I think most of us forget to check the Shoutbox so it wasn't bad manners that we ignored you, more bad habits. Welcome to the chat. Look forward to your contributions. New voices are always welcome.
