The Knights charge down to the South coast to do battle against Plymouth Albion at Brickfields for the last game of the 2014/15 Green King IPA Championship season.
The Knights are ninth following that victory against Bedford Blues last Saturday, Albion are twelfth and already relegated to National One as there are no relegation play-offs this season. Albion have nothing to lose, so why not throw everything at the game and go out with a swan-song. Ealing Trailfinders are swapping places with Albion.
Albion have won three, had two draws and lost sixteen of their twenty one games played. The Knights have won seven, drawn one and lost thirteen of their games. Unfortunately for the Knights, Albion’s three wins have all been at Brickfields. The Knights are the favourites to win but they cannot take anything for granted as Albion beat fourth-placed Titans 22 – 8 in January and drew 12 all with third-placed London Scottish in February. Although the Knights drew 13 all with Scottish at the Athletic Ground in Richmond, the Titans did the double over us.
Albion Fly Half Declan Cusack is their danger man with the boot, Cusack’s strike rate this season is 87.5% at Brickfields. Cusack’s away strike rate is just 57%, so he feels much more confident at Brickfields – keep your discipline Knights.
Plymouth cannot climb above twelfth but the Knights could end the season either eighth, ninth or tenth depending on their result and one of two others.
Jersey are eighth and four points above with the same number of wins. Eleventh-placed Moseley fly over to play Jersey at St Peter’s.
Bedford Blues are tenth, also with seven wins. The Blues welcome fifth-placed Nottingham to Goldington Road.
Moseley don’t need to beat Jersey as they can’t rise above or finish lower than eleventh and Jersey are much stronger at home than away.
Nottingham have it all to play for as they need to win and Rotherham Titans to lose to make the fourth promotion play-off spot.
The Titans welcome third-placed London Scottish. Only one draw separates the two teams. (Sottish have two draws and seven losses, the Titans one draw and eight losses).
C’mon Knights let’s finish the season on a high and give the longest current-serving Knight, Tom Davies the last game that he deserves. Surely ending on a high and feeling good will aid his Master’s degree studies. Good luck with the most difficult taught academic qualification that you can receive Tom.
