Apologies to those who were not being disrespectful and feel they are being unfairly criticised. That was not my intention. However, it's a little bit inconsistent to say fans have a right to say what they like at the officials but that when I mention it makes me uncomfortable, I am not afforded that same freedom.
At times we have had to play with refs who were missing more than they saw, making themselves the main focus of the game, displaying flagrant disregard of the rules, and even favouring one team over another. That does need dealing with. The issue is that shout obscenities and attacking officials personally is not on. It doesn't change the outcome and it makes the atmosphere negative. We're gaining a bit of a reputation for it too. Take a peek on the Rolling Maul fora. It comes down to the fact that the laws are as interpreted by the referee in charge on the day. Rugby has respect as one of its core values and whilst the fans aren't legally bound, I know I feel a moral obligation to conduct myself in the spirit of the game. I would express confusion over a decision I thought to be wrong but would never aggressively swear at anybody involved in the game. If you haven't don't that then my issue is not with you. I am sorry if the wires have been crossed there.
The issue does seem to be getting worse, certainly this season. We need to spend more time cheering on what our players are doing and less time shouting up storm clouds. Castle Park is always better when the atmosphere is buzzing and positive.
