A crunch game at this stage of the season as Moseley welcome the Knights to Birmingham. The Knights are tenth in the Championship, just two points above Moseley. To compound matters a newly revitalised Plymouth Albion have started winning games and they lie in wait now just three points below Moseley. Albion travel to Worcester to face the Warriors on Saturday; could they provide the biggest upset of the season and beat the Warriors? They’ve got renewed self-belief, so hopefully Wuss won’t underestimate them.
Mose have a ‘Knight’ playing for them on loan from Gloucester; Prop Shaun Knight.
Mose are below us as they drew a game that we won, we have both lost eleven of our sixteen games played. We have scored just seven more points and conceded 103 points fewer. Knights’ points have mainly been scored off the boot of top Championship points-scorer Dougie Flockhart. Mose have scored seven more tries than the Knights.
Fly Half Sam Oliver is their danger man off the tee, Oliver’s strike rate is 65.12%. Back Row Chris Brightwell followed by Winger Drew Cheshire are Mose’s leading try-scorers. Brightwell has scored one more than leading Knight try-scorer Latu Makaafi (five) and Cheshire one less.
Between them Moseley’s forwards are the sixth top forward try-scorers in the Championship but their backs are ninth. 48% of Mose’s tries were scored in the last quarter, so fitness is a strength.
Only Plymouth Albion have conceded more tries; Mose’s have been conceded predominantly by the back row scoring but not far behind are the Centres and Half Backs, followed by the wingers. Nearly a third of their try conceded have been scored in the first quarter, so the Knights need to sprint out of the blocks on the referees whistle.
Bedford Blues and Leeds Carnegie are still six points above, so again untouchable after this game but in two games, who knows?
