Round 11, Doncaster Knights v Caldy RFC, Castle Park, Boxing Day, Sat 26th Dec - 2:30pm
After Round 10 was cancelled for most teams in the Championship, the Knights will hopefully battle against Caldy on Boxing Day. The weather has increased by about 10 degrees, so the fixture looks like it should be on.
Doncaster Knights are fifth after winning five and losing four of their nine games played, Caldy are eleventh after winning two and losing seven of theirs. Caldy could jump two places if they win and both Ampthill and Richmond lose.
The Knights have scored 41 more points than Caldy, which includes just five more tries. Caldy have conceded 45 more points than the Knights, which includes just seven tries over nine games. ? - it made sense at the time. From the same website, at least the numbers are similar!
Caldy’s Winger Nick Royle has scored seven tries in the league (9 from 10 appearances in all games), the sixth highest in the Championship. Royle is an England Rugby Sevens International rugby union player. As of 2018 he was the most prolific try scorer ever in National League 2 North with over 190 tries. The Knights need to be wary of Royle’s speed and proficiency at handing-off potential tacklers.
Despite Caldy’s eleventh place in the Championship, they have scored the seventh highest number of points away and conceded the sixth fewest points away from home. Both teams have scored four try bonus points and one losing BP.
The rest of the Championship over Christmas
Friday 23rd December
Hartpury RFC (7) v Cornish Pirates (8)
Saturday 24th December
Ealing Trailfinders (2) v Jersey Reds (1, played extra game)
Monday 26th December
Bedford Blues (4, played extra game) v Ampthill (10)
Nottingham (6) v Coventry (3, played extra game)
Doncaster (5) v Caldy (11) (NOT on 24th December)
Saturday 31st December
Richmond (9, played extra game) v London Scottish (12)
A Knight victory over Caldy would see them rise to fourth if Bedford lose but a defeat would see them drop to sixth if Nottingham win and possibly seventh if Hartpury also win with a bonus point. The good news for the Knights is that Bedford in fourth are two points above but they have played an extra game.
Either (or both if they draw) Ealing or Jersey won’t remain undefeated on Christmas Eve after they play each other.

Merry Christmas to all and wishing all a happy, healthy, prosperous and successful New Year.
