I have not seen the announcement regarding no relegation Jamie - I know there were rumours but nothing concrete as BT wanted a say, however if we are to have a 12 Team league next season somebody has to either come down or come up (Who was second in Nat1?)
Once a club relegated from the Premiership offloads players and other staff surplus to its needs in the Championship would its financial base not be as secure as it had been before demotion? The clubs which have spent a season in the Championship before winning promotion back to Premiership, such as Northampton and Newcastle, appear to have survived intact! So is their scaremongering to ring fence nothing but tosh?
If that is the case who is going to compensate us for the loss of income / revenue? And surely we require adequate notice of changes to be able to contest these things?
But it is highly probable, as you suggest, that would be the outcome and we would be screwed over again. I would like to see a 14/16 Team Championship, than have to suffer the cup competition again.
And sorry Isleonian I missed your BT query but Jamie is correct it is British Telecom - as they have the franchise for broadcasting the Premiership Matches and relegation matches drum up nearly as much interest as the Play-off Finals I suspect.
Don’t be too pessimistic. I have some empathy with position the Premiership find themselves in due to no real fault of their own. After all none of us have any control of the virus. This is a situation that can be rectified.
Regarding going forward I suspect that BT will have a bigger input into the decision making process because of the amount of money they are putting in. They are desperate to increase their rugby union exposure as it will lead to increased advertising revenues and they are unlikely to get this if they are faced with numerous non-entity games due to the absence of the threat of relegation. The same applies to CVC who are only in it to make money.
What we should all be doing now is, as individuals, lobbying BT and CVC and by-passing the RFU, PRL and the Professional Game Board
Sadly the RFU made a massive error in 1995 when it surrendered professional supremacy to the clubs, in huge contrast to the reigning world champions, the Bokke! So now it has cemented its acceptance of its own lower place in the rugby hierarchy to the Premiership. What a totally and utterly miserable decision (not many front rowers in the RFU decision makers). The Championship might consider the principle of Legitimate Expectation and let matters be decided in the Courts rather than at the East India club? I love Sarries but it would be so good for the game's future were they to fail to gain promotion this time!
kenner: Just a Question if I may? Why after a season and on to the second can we not get an actual picture of Aaron Carpenter on the players site? Did not someone just take team photos?
Sept 21, 2017 19:35:08 GMT
Sir Spicious: I fear there are rumours that Aaron may, in fact, be a vampire and as such his image does not reflect in mirrors nor can it be captured in a photo. I should, however, warn you this may be fake news.

thomasmachin: It would appear that if we are to replace the departing players we had better be quick or all the available players will be signed by Ealing ,Coventry and Cornish Pirates!

donnyknightsfan: that was absolutely dire today almost from start to finish apart from a spell in the 2nd half when we looked OK. players don't look motivated enough to me. they need a kick up the backside. the next two games v Bedford and Irish look a tough ask now.

donnyknightsfan: after yesterday's showing a new attacking coach and structure is needed ASAP. our attack is really poor. why don't we ever look to create space?. you're not going to beat championship defences by just running straight at them.

thomasmachin: I would support any reasonable suggestion to support the Club

Sir Spicious: Sorry, Lock. I think most of us forget to check the Shoutbox so it wasn't bad manners that we ignored you, more bad habits. Welcome to the chat. Look forward to your contributions. New voices are always welcome.
